Why We Write

Graphic by Casimir Maksymowicz '24

Rhys Rountree ‘25: I love writing for The Pelican because it allows me to connect with people in the community that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. My favorite part of the process is getting to interview new people and learn what they are passionate about. Also, writing an article every week is a great way to practice informal writing and journalism! Everyone should join The Pelican!!!

Nel Peter ‘25: Writing for The Pelican gives me the opportunity to learn in-depth about and shed light on all of the wonderful sports teams, faculty members, traditions, and students we have here at SPS. It also provides me with an opportunity to have some fun and try a new, more informal style of writing through Rogue with my friend EJ!

Wrenn Ragsdale ‘26: I’ve always had a passion for school publications. Back when I was in the second grade, I established a class newspaper called The Sacco Times, named after our teacher. The newspaper focused on sharing the latest and greatest of our class and school. Artwork, recipes, and debates on the best iPad app were all found on the pages of the periodical. Over the following years, I, alongside my classmates, strived to create the best publication we could make. Arriving at St. Paul’s, I sought to continue my passion from middle and elementary school through writing for The Pelican. I wanted to share the stories of our community members with the broader SPS community and take a deep dive into the traditions and stories of our school. So far, my experience with The Pelican has been unique; I’ve been able to express myself in such a unique, unfathomable way. And I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

Thad Lucentini ‘25: Writing for The Pelican is a great way to hone your writing and provide a valuable service to your community. For me, The Pelican has provided an avenue for exploring events and parts of the school that I usually would not know much about. It has allowed me to meet new people, and hopefully also provide informative and enjoyable reading material for my peers.
